Peterborough Improvements offer a solution for those who are tired of having an old, drafty garage full of clutter. We convert these spaces into warm and dry living spaces with added value to your home!
Converting a garage into living space is an affordable and easy way to expand your home without the hassle of adding of building an extension. Conversions don’t usually require planning permission, so are more cost effective than extension too.
The possibilities for your garage are endless –
Most garage conversions in the UK will not require planning permission as they fall within what is called “Permitted Development Rights intact”, this means that unless permitted development rights have been removed or the design requires extending the building, we should be able to complete the works using a building notice.
We can deal with this on your behalf with your local council so all work is completed to building regulations approval.

The first step in any garage conversion project is to install studwork and create new walls if needed. We then insulate the room so it complies with building regulations, which will typically be followed electrical first fix, any plumbing, brickwork, doors/windows and then plastering ready for new flooring and final fittings.
Planning permission is generally not required for garage conversions, but you will need building regulations approval. We can deal with all the paperwork for this and deal with your local council on your behalf.
All our work will be done to building regulations approval.
The time it takes to complete your project will depend on the size and what you plan use this room for. For instance, converting a garage into an office space will usually take less time than if we were converting that space into a bathroom.
Most average sized single garages can usually be converted within 10-14 working days and we can usually have a team make a start on your project within a 2-4 weeks.
Each conversion is going to be different but as a rough indication a single garage will be around £6,000 – £15,000 increasing to £11,000 – £30,000 for a double garage conversion.
These are obviously rough ideas and figures will lower or increase depending on the work required and materials used.
A 10% deposit is required to start the work, a 40% stage payment half way through completion and the balance upon completion of all work.
