About Resin Driveways Stamford

Resin Bound Driveway Being installed in Stanground Peterborough

Our Resin Bound Installation Service

Resin surfacing is a relatively new type of paving system in the UK that has been catching on like wildfire. This high-tech surfacing can be considered an attractive, durable alternative to natural stone, concrete or tarmac. This permeable surface is for anyone looking to make their homes modern, superb looking whilst at the same time reduce time spent on maintenance.

There are so many options available when it comes to colours and patterns that you’re sure to find the perfect match for your home. The resin bound material can withstand weeds, oil, and general wear and tear whilst still being permeable and allowing water drainage into ground level rather than build up on top like other materials might do!

Extremely Versatile

Resin-based surfacing is a versatile material that can be used for many different projects.

Some of these include:

Domestic

  • Driveways
  • Patios
  • Internal Flooring

  • Tree Pits
  • Playgrounds
  • Pool Surrounds
  • Commercial Properties

Listed Properties

Both English Heritage and the National Trust have approved resin bound paving systems for use in historic sites.

As the area’s leading resin bound installation company, we have the skills to handle any project. Whether it’s an overlay on an existing surface or full site excavation and installation – you’ll be guaranteed the work is done professionally.

Why Use Resin Bound?

Resin bound surfacing is the perfect solution for tired looking driveways. It offers an extremely hard-wearing, permeable surface that requires virtually no maintenance and it looks superb!

When rainwater falls onto a paved surface, it needs somewhere to drain away or you run the risk of flooding. This is why for many years gravel has been a popular choice for driveways as it allows water to flow between the small stones straight into the ground below.

This is superb for not having to worry about puddling of water but as we all know gravel can be messy and isn’t the easiest of surfaces for pedestrians with pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Resin bound paving combines the best of both worlds

Listed below are some of the many benefits of using resin bound surfacing over block paving, loose gravel, imprinted concrete and tarmac.

FAQ

1
Can I drive on a Resin Bound Driveway?

Of course, Resin Bound surfacing is designed to take even the heaviest of traffic such as buses and lorries.

2
Can you overlay my existing patio or driveway?

Possibly. If the area is currently concrete or tarmac there is a good chance we can clean-up/repaired the area and install on top. This obviously keeps costs down as a full dig out and base install will not be required. One of our team will be able to advise if your current install area is suitable for an overlay upon viewing. For your base to have the same lifespan as one of our full resin bound installs, a new base is preferable.

3
How long does a Resin Bound surface last?

As with any driveway unfortunately it simply wont last forever. We offer a 6 Year Guarantee on all our full installs where we have installed the base and the resin manufacturers, who do vigorous testing on the product, give an average lifetime expectancy of 20 years before minor problems may start to occur. The great thing with a Resin Bound install is that if in twenty years time there were any issues with the Resin, the top surface can simply be replaced for a fraction of the cost of a full install.

4
How long does Resin Bound take to set?

The Resin install area will be suitable for use after 4-6 hours for pedestrian traffic installs, and 12-16 hours for vehicular traffic. For heavy use, 24 hours would be ideal where possible to ensure a fully bonded surface.

5
Is the Resin surface permeable?

Installs use enough resin to ensure each particle is coated allowing the aggregate to bond securely whilst leaving gaps between the stone for water to permeate through the resin. This is one of the biggest reasons customers opt for Resin driveway installs over say block paving as it allows water to dissipate better.

6
What depth is the Resin usually laid at?

The depth of install will vary for each project, this depends on the type of application and the size of the aggregate that is used. Typically the depth of a driveway install for normal vehicle traffic is approximately 18mm.

7
What's the difference between Resin Bound and Resin Bonded surfacing?

Resin Bound systems use aggregate mixed in a mixer with Resin and then hand-trowelled into place. This produces a surface that is both smooth, porous and SuDS compliant when used with the appropriate base build up. With a Resin Bonded install a layer of Resin is screeded onto the install surface and then a fine aggregate is scattered over the top and rolled in. The final result is a rough surface that is not porous.

8
Is there a limit to the size of a Resin Bound installation?

In short… No. However, as the system is hand trowelled larger installs may require the use of a joint. This could be a block of some description but is is usually completed using an aluminium joint. The aluminium joint is extremely thin in size and hardly visible. This allows a larger install to be completed over more than one day as it introduces a break in the system if setting times wont be long enough or if the area is too much of a risk to try and complete in a single day. Also If there is any movement in the sub-base, it will cause reflective cracking, as the sub-base underneath the Resin expands and contracts. This is why a movement joint is often used to protect against the natural stresses on a driveway that can cause cracking, essential for larger Resin Bound installations.

How Does a Resin Installation Work?

The Resin system can be applied to an existing base such as a pavement, tarmac or concrete as an overlay or to a newly laid base if required.

It is extremely important that if installing to an existing base that the base is in good condition with no major cracking, weeds or potholes and that the area is cleaned to remove loose material and dust before install.

If installing onto a new base this is best to be constructed from asphalt. An open course of asphalt will be less prone to cracking than concrete and will also be permeable allowing the install to be fully SUDS compliant.

Edging strips made of aluminium can be fixed to the edges to prevent any edges of the install area from crumbling or we also offer a wide range block edging options to compliment your new resin bound aggregate surface. All these options are available to view at our Peterborough Showroom.

Why aren't Resin driveways seen as often as block paving?

The main reason you probably don’t see many Resin driveways in Peterborough is simple customer awareness. Although designers and contractors in the construction trade have been using resin based surfacing, it has only recently started to become familiar to the residential market in the last 15 or so years.

“If you know Peterborough and ever visit Marks and Spencer’s in Brotherhood retail park you can see our Resin Based surfacing used in parts of their car park.”
