This is the most common type of garden fencing but is not as robust or durable as Closeboard Featheredge fencing.
Lap panel fences consist of a frame with horizontal overlapping boards slotted between. The fencing needs to be erected slightly above the ground or have concrete or treated wooden gravel boards placed at the bottom to stop the panels from rotting.
The panels are attached to wooden fence posts using U-shaped post clips or nails on each panel but it is recommended to use concrete posts as these give much more strength and the panels can simply be slotted in.
Lap panel fences provide good privacy and a secure boundary but as previously mentioned they are not very durable, so it is recommended the panels are treated with a fence oil which penetrates the wood and protects it from within. If this type of fence is not protected it will quickly become warped, split and rot as it is attacked by the elements.
